Employee Spotlight - Kim Pearson

  1. Can you describe your journey to becoming the head of the training and product departments? I worked for a computer software company for eight years and learned many things, including training, support, programming, product management, and the development lifecycle. After choosing to leave that company to spend more time doing the things I’m passionate about, I got connected with Mark, who said he desperately needed a trainer. Of all my previous skills from my former job, training was my favorite (and Mark was just as quirky as me) - it was an easy yes! Product Management quickly became the natural fit as I was hearing first hand from our clients what enhancements they would like to see the system do!
  2. What inspired you to pursue a career in training and development? Learning about my strengths. This significantly impacted what I decided to do with my life. Turns out I’m pretty good with people :) Now, every one of you inspires me to do the best of my ability and continue to get better at what I do. I’ve found a passion for learning about others’ training styles and tailoring each training session to the person. Meeting people and building relationships is such a joy, and it’s exactly what my role as Head of Training and Product provides.
  3. How do you measure the success of your training programs? By the customer's demeanor. It’s not about time or how computer-savvy one is; it’s about the client’s excitability and willingness to learn something new. That is what drives successful training.
  4. Can you share a memorable moment or success story from your time in this role? There are so many!! Recently, a client told me she LOVES FinnlySport and never thought she would love learning software. We talked about how nervous she was about a software conversion at the beginning, and working with my team not only eased her anxieties but also made learning a new software fun.
  5. Looking forward, what are your goals for the training department in the next year? Adding another trainer and access to more training guides and videos. Doing on-site visits to work one-on-one with clients to improve both the training process and the product.
  6. Outside of FinnlySport, what do you like to do in your free time? Traveling and exploring anywhere and everywhere. The destinations that pull me back repeatedly are Utah, Duluth, and any National Park. Attending my daughter’s plays and musical performances. Listening to my son talk about Legos and his dreams of becoming a Lego designer. I am also passionate about home design and construction.
  7. Why FinnlySport? FinnlySport is dedicated to their (our) customers and employees. We are a collaborative group that works together regularly to build a product that makes our customers’ lives easier and more fun doing the day-to-day work, which I believe in. FinnlySport provides this not only for our customers but also for the employees. It’s a true joy to come to work every day knowing that I get to connect with YOU, listen to what you’d like to see the software do, and then work as a team to execute that in future projects.
